Saint Xavier decorates Christmas trees for annual holiday contest

SXU offices choose individual charities

Chicago (Dec. 4, 2006) – Saint Xavier University is spreading Christmas cheer through its third annual holiday decorating contest. This year, SXU offices are decorating Christmas trees and making donations to individual charities. The trees were put on display on Nov. 27. Students will be visiting participating offices to judge tree decorations starting Monday, Dec. 4, and contest winners will be announced at Saint Xavier’s Holiday Party at Gilhooley’s Grande Saloon on Dec. 14.

“Each year, we have a holiday charity event, but we try to have a different theme,” said event coordinator Rita Hickey. Themes for previous years have been office wreaths that were auctioned off for charity and Christmas stockings.

This year, 37 Saint Xavier offices are participating in the contest. Charities supported include the Food Pantry, A.E.R.O., The Lions Club, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Alzheimer’s Association, the South Suburban Crisis Center, Chicago High School Agricultural Sciences, the Courage Program, the Little Company of Mary Foundation, phone cards for the troops, the American Lung Association, Adopt a Child, PADS, thyroid research, Relay for Life, and Mercy Home.
