Sue DeMatteo wins Staff Excellence Award
President's executive secretary has served professionally for nearly 17 years
Chicago (Dec. 4, 2006) – In recognition of her professional, courteous and graceful service to Saint Xavier University, president’s executive secretary Sue DeMatteo received the University’s 2006 Staff Excellence Award at Saint Xavier’s Founders’ Day celebration on Dec. 1.
Along with DeMatteo, Jan Bickel, D.M.A., director of vocal studies, won the Saint Xavier University Award for faculty, and student Adeeb Odeh won the Mother Mary Paulita Morris, R.S.M., Service Award during Saint Xavier’s annual Founders’ Day celebration.
“Today, we celebrate the outstanding contributions of these individuals,” said Saint Xavier University President Judith A. Dwyer, Ph.D. “We honor the dedication, academic achievements and strength of spirit shown by our awardees.”
DeMatteo, of Palos Park, has been the president’s executive secretary since 1995 and has served for two presidents. She has also worked in the School of Nursing, office of She began her career at Saint Xavier nearly 17 years ago and has worked in the School of Nursing, Pastoral Ministry Institute, and the departments of religious studies and philosophy.
The Staff Excellence Award recognizes a staff member who performs his or her responsibilities in a meritorious fashion; makes a significant contribution to the University community and its mission; displays initiative and creativity; establishes closer bonds among faculty, staff, students and alumni; treats all people with dignity and respect; and builds relationships based
on honesty and integrity.
“Through her position, . . .she presents the face of Saint Xavier University in a spirit we all consider most desirable. She acts in a manner that reflects many of the core values of the University,” said one of her nominators, Margaret Bogacz, professor of mathematics at Saint Xavier.
