McDonoughs donate $1 million to Saint Xavier University

Donation will fund capital improvements

Chicago (April 10, 2006) – Life trustee James McDonough and his wife, Jacque, have pledged $1 million to fund capital improvements at Saint Xavier University’s Chicago campus.

“Jacque and I have great affection for the Sisters of Mercy, and we really appreciate the mission of Saint Xavier University and all it does for the community. The plans are exciting, and they deserve the support of the Board and the entire community,” James McDonough said.

“We are exceedingly grateful to the McDonoughs for continuing their extraordinary generosity to Saint Xavier University. We are blessed to have friends such as these,” said Judith A. Dwyer, Ph.D., president of Saint Xavier University.

In 2004, the University initiated a campus planning process to help focus creative thinking about existing and future facilities that will create a more welcoming environment for studying, learning and working, and identified changes and/or improvements for both the short and long-term.

“This wonderful gift from the McDonoughs will be combined with additional gifts to fund future construction in keeping with the Saint Xavier University strategic plan,” said Steven Murphy, Ed.D., vice president for university advancement at Saint Xavier University.

An earlier donation by the McDonoughs allowed for construction of McDonough Chapel on Saint Xavier University’s Chicago campus, which opened in September 2000.
