Barbara Sutton wins Staff Excellence Award

Associate Registrar has served with compassion since 1998

Chicago (Dec. 2, 2005) – Recognizing her dedication and meritorious service to Saint Xavier University, associate registrar Barbara Sutton received the university’s 2005 Staff Excellence Award at Saint Xavier’s Founders’ Day celebration on Dec. 2.

“Today we celebrate the outstanding contributions of these individuals in our community. We honor the dedication, academic achievements and strength of spirit shown by our awardees,” said Saint Xavier University President Judith Dwyer at the award ceremony in the Butler reception room on Friday afternoon.

Sutton, of Clarendon Hills, has been an associate registrar in the Registrar’s office since the Summer of 1998.

“Barb’s responsibilities – large, small, routine or unique – are all accomplished in the same way: with exceptional attention to detail, timeliness, professionalism, high quality, and characteristic good humor,” her nominator wrote. “Barb’s everyday example is a real, live, working example of the mercy that Mother Catherine McAuley evidenced in her life and in her writings.”

The Staff Excellence Award recognizes a staff member who performs his or her responsibilities in a meritorious fashion; makes a significant contribution to the university and its mission; establishes closer bonds among faculty, staff, students and alumni; and builds relationships based on honesty and integrity.

“Barb is a woman of integrity and honor. It does not matter if her actions will ever be seen or known. Barb lives a life of faith, and faith rests on truth. Our mission speaks of a commitment to liberal education, ethical concern, social responsibility, Catholic heritage and the importance of service. Our core values of respect, excellence, compassion, service, hospitality, integrity, diversity and learning for life succinctly characterize Barb Sutton. Excellence and mercy are just the way Barb lives. She knows that God becomes a little more visible in our world when we serve others and pass those core values on.”
