Tickets still available for President's Scholarship Ball
Event to be held March 19 in Union Station's Great Hall
CHICAGO (Feb. 15, 2005) – Saint Xavier University is holding its 18th annual Scholarship Ball Saturday, March 19 in the Great Hall of Chicago’s Union Station, 210 S. Canal St. This year, Joanne and Arthur Velasquez will be honored with the Shield of Saint Xavier in recognition of their support of the university and their commitment to service.
Arthur Velasquez is the president and chief executive officer of Azteca Foods and a former trustee of the University. The Velasquezes will be joining the company of past Shield of Saint Xavier honorees James and Ellen O’Connor (2004), Sister Rosemary Connelly (1999) and Mayor Richard M. and Maggie Daley (1990).
LaSalle Bank is once again the presenting sponsor for the gala. Other major sponsors include Henry Bros. Co and Florida Plastics Int’l Inc. The event will be chaired by Marlo and Bill Keyser, president and CEO of Florida Plastics Int’l Inc. and James and Dr. Trish Morris ’83, clinical psychologist. Dr. Morris and Mr. Keyser are also members of the university’s Board of Trustees.
“The President’s Scholarship Ball is our best opportunity to introduce friends to the values of Saint Xavier,” Morris said. “Art and Joanne Velasquez epitomize the spirit of Saint Xavier. Their commitment to and involvement in the community is inspiring. They are perfect examples of our ‘Pass It On’ theme.”
Attendees will enjoy a reception at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m., catered by George L. Jewell Catering Service. Dinner will be followed by dancing to the Stanley Paul Orchestra.
The President’s Scholarship Ball has raised millions of dollars for the President’s Scholarship Program, which provides scholarship aid for Saint Xavier’s most deserving students.
