Saint Xavier's Latino Studies Program to host expert on Japanese Immigrants in Latin America

Dr. Daniel Masterson to give lecture Friday, Oct. 15

CHICAGO (Oct. 6, 2004) – Saint Xavier University’s new Latino/Latin American Studies Program will host Dr. Daniel Masterson at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 in the Student Lounge located in the Warde Academic Center on the university’s Chicago Campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

Masterson’s most recent book is titled The Japanese in Latin America (University of Illinois Press, 2004). A professor of Latin American history and immigration studies at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis for 25 years, Masterson has also been on the faculty at North Carolina State University and the State University of New York at Oswego. 

Masterson’s research interests are Latin American militarism and insurgencies, race relations and immigration.
