Get free health screenings, info, and more at SXU's Ninth Annual Health Fair

Fair is scheduled for March 23

Free health screenings, assessments and information are available at Saint Xavier University’s Ninth Annual Health Fair on Fri., March 23. The fair, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Shannon Center at the University's Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St.

Those attending the fair can take advantage of a wide variety of free testing services, including blood pressure screenings, bone density screenings, hearing and vision screenings, foot screenings, cervical spine screenings, blood glucose screenings, injury assessments, postural assessment, shoe assessments and more. New to this year's Health Fair are CrossFit demonstrations by CrossFit Beverly, as well as demonstrations of fitness apps and healthy technology by Best Buy. Reflexology and mini chair massages will be offered free of charge. Information will be available on nutrition, heath, and wellness with healthy cooking demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Heartland Blood Centers will also be hosting a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Shannon Center parking lot.

Neighborhood vendors will be at the fair to share health information with the community, including: Little Company of Mary; MetroSouth Medical Center; Advocate Trinity Hospital; WellGroup Health Partners and Devine Nutrition; Advanced Eyecare Professionals, PC; Podiatrist - Dr. Robert Sheffey; Greenwood Chiropractic Clinic; Curves; Accelerated Rehab Physical Therapy; Reflexology-A Better Choice; Running for Kicks; Running Excels; American Cancer Society; Blue Cross Blue Shield/Mid American Group; CVS Pharmacy & Minute Clinic; Heartland Blood Centers; Advocate Christ Hospital Cardiac and Stroke Prevention; Advocate Christ Center for Breast Care; Core Fitness and Physical Therapy/Beverly Spinning; Charter Fitness; Cook County Department of Public Health; Chicago Department of Public Health; Illinois Secretary of State: Organ and Tissue Donor Registration; Natural Instincts Fitness Studio; Reliv International; Chiro One Wellness Centers; Leukemia and Lymphoma; Shaklee; American Kidney Fund; Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center; Sam’s Club; South Chicago Vein Clinic; Serious Training and Development; Tricoci University; Walgreens; WISHFIT study with Rush University Medical Center; and several others.

Representatives from across SXU will be at the fair, including the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the Ludden Speech Language Clinic, the Health Center, the School of Nursing, and the Shannon Center. 

Light refreshments will be available from Muscle Milk, FRS Healthy Performance, 5-hour Energy, Starbucks, Great American Bagel, Panera Bread, and Subway. There also will be a children's activity corner and face painting. Attendees can purchase any health- and fitness-related books for 40 percent off, sponsored by the SXU Bookstore.

“It is important that people of all ages have the opportunity to learn how to live and maintain a healthy lifestyle,” said Jennifer Quinlan, facility manager of Saint Xavier University’s Shannon Center and organizer of the event. “The SXU Health Fair is a one-stop shop to receive free health screenings, instructions, mini massages and much more provided by local vendors.”
