SXU student wins $5,000 Gilman International Scholarship to study in Spain
Ashley Perisee of Oak Park was one of 850 students who received scholarship
Chicago (July 8, 2009) Saint Xavier University student Ashley Perisee of Oak Park received a $5,000 scholarship to study in Seville, Spain for the 2009-10 academic year.
Perisee is one of 850 outstanding American undergraduate students from more than 350 colleges and universities across the United States to receive the 2009 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.
The Gilman Scholarship helps American undergraduate students gain greater understanding of other cultures, countries, languages and economies by helping them participate in study abroad programs.
Perisee, who is majoring in Spanish secondary education and pursuing endorsements in English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education, will participate in the College Consortium for International Studies program in Seville, Spain. Perisee will live with a Spanish family and take courses at the International College of Seville and the University of Seville.
The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education’s Southern Regional Center in Houston, Texas.
