Madeleine K. Albright at Saint Xavier University a Roaring Success

More than 1,000 turn out for first 'SXU Voices and Visions Speaker Series’

Chicago (April 11, 2007) –More than 1,000 people turned out Tuesday night to hear former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright speak at Saint Xavier University in Chicago for the inaugural “SXU Voices and Visions Speaker Series” event.

Albright delighted audience members with anecdotes and thoughts from her career leading up to serving as the first female U.S. Secretary of State. She also offered her own personal observations on topics ranging from Iraq to the next presidential election before answering questions from the audience.

“This inaugural event of the ‘SXU Voices and Visions Speaker Series’ exceeded all expectations,” said Robert Tenczar, vice president for university relations. “We are pleased to provide this level of public discourse to the Chicago area, and we look forward to continuing this exciting tradition in the fall with another unique and electrifying speaker.”

Former U.S. Secretary of Commerce and fellow cabinet member William M. Daley introduced Albright. Daley is the son of former Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley and brother of Chicago’s current mayor, Richard M. Daley.

Prior to her lecture, Albright conducted a special classroom exercise with Saint Xavier students based on her most recent book, The Mighty and the Almighty: Reflections on America, God and World Affairs.

Referencing her conversation with the students, Albright said, “I have the sense that they expect the best for America, and they want the best for the world. I was really very, very impressed. It’s no wonder that SXU enjoys such an outstanding reputation.”

The event was co-sponsored by the Office for University Relations and the Student Activities Board.
