Endowed and Named Scholarships

University-Wide Scholarships

Students are automatically considered for these scholarships by filling the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Alumni Legacy Scholarship

This award will provide scholarships to children and grandchildren of alumni who plan to attend Saint Xavier University. This scholarship was established in 2005 by members of the Class of '55 to commemorate the golden anniversary of their graduation.

Adele '33 and Elmer Blecke Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established from the Estate of Adele Blecke. This award supports general scholarships.

Angelo Bonadonna Jr. Study Abroad Scholarship

Established in 2011 in memory of Angelo Bonadonna Jr., ’08, by his family and friends, recipients of this scholarship are adventurous and curious students seeking to know the world and themselves through study abroad experiences.

Cardinal George Scholarship

Merit-based scholarships offered to students of Italian descent.

John T. and Elizabeth Downs Cartan Scholarship

This award is need-based and consideration will be given to a student from the Republic of Ireland, preferably from a Mercy secondary school in Trim, County Meath or Scoil Mhuire. In the event that there are not any Irish student applicants, then this scholarship will be awarded to an American student of Irish descent from Cook County, IL. This scholarship was established through the generosity of Mrs. Mary Cartan Hendry, '67.

Chartwells Scholarship

A merit-based scholarship established through the generosity of Chartwells Dining Service.

Class of 2001 Scholarship

This scholarship was established at graduation by members of the Class of 2001 and Jim and Trish Morris, '83. The candidate must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher while contributing to the SXU community through athletics or extra-curricular activities.

Class of 2010 Book Scholarship

Through the collective generosity of the Class of 2010, the Class of 2010 Book Scholarship will help incoming first-year students pay for textbooks and other course materials. James and Patricia Morris, Ph.D., ’83, matched all contributions to this fund from graduating students. Applications are available during FOCUS.

Cuneo Foundation Scholarship

Merit-based scholarships for undergraduate students. This scholarship was established through the generosity of the Cuneo Foundation.

Bernard and Jean Ann Downey Scholarship

Established through the generosity of Bernard and Jean Downey, this annual award provides assistance to students with high financial need.

Hassan (Husni) and Safia Haddad Peace Award

A scholarship created to nurture positive, creative and thoughtful approaches to timely issues, with an emphasis on peace and understanding. This award was established through the generosity of Dr. Safia Haddad.

IBEW/NECA Scholarship

An annual award to a son or daughter of a member of IBEW Local 134. Applicants must be currently enrolled in Saint Xavier or accepted for full-time undergraduate status with a minimum GPA of 3.0. A 1,000-word essay must be submitted with two letters of recommendation. This scholarship was established through the generosity of IBEW Local 134.

Mercy Values Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2004 at the President’s Scholarship Ball. It is awarded to dependents of a Catholic school teacher or administrator with more than ten years of service in the communities surrounding Saint Xavier University campuses.

Mark E. Mucha '94 Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming student, preferably from Marist High School, who is an athlete or performing arts major. This scholarship was established through the generosity of Mrs. Carole Frank and Mrs. Kelly Mucha-Varela and contributions from family members and friends.

Thomas and Catherine Nessinger Scholarship

This award provides scholarship support for Saint Xavier students with high academic achievements and high financial need. It was established through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Nessinger.

Sister Mary Denis O'Grady, R.S.M., '37 Scholarship

This award provides scholarship support for Saint Xavier students with high academic qualifications who demonstrate the outstanding loyalty and spirit of service that was characterized by Sister Denis O'Grady during her 50-plus years of service at Saint Xavier.

Arthur J. Schmitt Foundation Scholarship

An annual grant generously provided by the Arthur J. Schmitt Foundation. This award supports the Schmitt Scholars Program, which provides scholarships to students with demonstrated records of campus involvement, leadership ability, and academic achievement.

Brian and Sue Shannon Scholarship

Preference for this award will be given to graduates of Marist High School or Mother McAuley High School. This scholarship was established through the generosity of Mrs. Sue Shannon.

Robert and Mary Rita Stump Family Perpetual Scholarship Fund

This fund will enable qualified graduates of area Catholic high schools to attend Saint Xavier University. These scholarships will be entitled the Mary Rita Stump Scholarship and the Robert Stump Scholarship and will impact many future generations of Saint Xavier students. This scholarship fund was established through the vision and generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stump.

Dorothy Williams Scholarship

The Dorothy Williams Scholarship will benefit an undergraduate student each year during his or her four years at Saint Xavier University.  This scholarship was funded through a generous gift in 2013 by Catherine Kallal ’43 and is named in honor of her mother.  Mrs. Williams volunteered as an on-call special assistant to Sister Josetta Butler, R.S.M. while her daughters, Catherine and Dorothy Williams Carter ’45, attended Saint Xavier College, as it was known then.
