Beginner 5K and 10K Running Program

The Shannon Center will host a six-week beginner 5K and 10K running programs for people who want to learn to run or are getting back into running. The programs will meet every Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., starting Monday, April 15.

The program is free for SXU students, faculty, and staff, and is $15/person for community members. There is no pre-registration. Simply meet in the Shannon Center Lobby on  Monday, April 15.

What is the 5K Running Program all about?

The Shannon Center has been hosting beginner 5K training programs for over eight years! It's a great program for people who are getting back into running or have never run before.  Participants are paired up with one of our five running coaches based on their pace. Participants will learn about proper form, proper breathing techniques and proper running apparel. If you have always wanted to run but felt discouraged or nervous this is a great program!

What is the 10K Running Program all about?

This is the second year that the Shannon Center has hosted a 10K Training Program. Participants wanting to train for a 10K should be able to run at least two miles at an 11-minute mile pace. There will be two to three coaches depending on the size of the group to help motivate and pace the runners every week.  The goal is to Run the Ridge Run 10K after six weeks!

NEW!  Online Nutrition Weight Loss Program

Starts Monday, April 28, 2013

The Shannon Center is taking the popular nutrition weight loss classes provided by registered dietician Kelly Devine Rickert online! This eight-week online nutrition class costs only $50 per person. Participants will be given a user log-in and password to view the online videos and handouts. Kelly will interact with participants on a weekly basis through the website and email.  This class is limited to 30 participants. If you are interested please, email Jen Quinlan at quinlan@sxu.edu
