Security and Access
During business hours, the University (excluding residence halls) will be open to enrolled and prospective students and their parents, employees, contractors, guests and invitees.
Residence halls are secured 24 hours a day and require a swipe card to access the main entrance and interior corridors. Individual room access requires a high security controlled key that the University owns and is not commercially reproducible. Over extended breaks, or when suspended, residential students’ swipe card access permissions are deactivated.
Each Pacelli and Regina Hall resident is allowed a maximum of four registered guests and must be with their guests at all times (this includes the time the guest returns to front desk for ID retrieval). McCarthy, Morris, and Rubloff Hall residents are each allowed a maximum of two registered guests and must be with their guests at all times (this includes the time the guest returns to front desk for ID retrieval). Each visitor must leave some form of picture identification at the front desk (any non-photo identification will not be accepted) and must adhere to all rules and regulations. The resident will be notified by telephone that a guest is at the front desk and will be asked to escort them to the resident’s room. Violators are to be reported immediately to on-duty RAs and public safety officers.
Overnight pass forms are available at the front desk of all resident halls. Residents must register their overnight guest by 9:30 p.m. with the RA on duty. Residents of Pacelli and Regina Halls are allowed two overnight guests. No guest may be registered for more than three nights within a seven-night period. Residents may not register an overnight guest of the opposite sex. The resident requesting an overnight guest must be present and personally fill out the request form.
Residents may visit other halls 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If a resident visits another hall, he or she must leave a picture I.D when entering the building.
Some facilities may have individual hours, which may vary at different times of the year. Examples are the Shannon Convocation and Athletic Center, and the Library.
