Parent Orientation Schedule 2017
Welcome to Parent Orientation at Saint Xavier University! The schedule will be the same for all five sessions.
Day 1 (June 21, 25, 28, July 9, 12)
1 - 2 p.m.
Begin the day with Parent Orientation check-in and receive your program materials. Staff will be available to welcome you and answer any questions.
2 - 2:40 p.m.
Meet members of the University leadership including Laurie M. Joyner, Ph.D., President of Saint Xavier University, staff and Orientation Leaders at this official kickoff to your summer visit!
Butler Reception Room
2:40 - 3:30 p.m.
In this session, you will learn about SXU's General Education and major requirements and academic expectations of your student.

3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
What changes should I expect? How can I support my student? What does my student need to do to be successful? Other than attending classes, what expectations does SXU have of my student? Get answers to these questions and more at this interactive session.
4:30 - 5:15 p.m.
Meet representatives from the Office of Financial Aid and the Office of the Bursar who will provide tips and strategies to help you understand rights and responsibilities concerning financial aid eligibility and payment obligations.
5:15 - 5:45 p.m.
What is the Mercy story we tell and why do we tell the story of Saint Xavier's founding visionaries? What does it mean to attend a 171 year-old Mercy Institution of Higher Education? In this session that utilizes visual images, story and ritual, you'll experience what makes an SXU education unique and how through your student's time at SXU he or she will encounter the core values of respect, excellence, diversity, compassion, hospitality, integrity, service and learning for life.

5:45 - 6:30 p.m.
At dinner you will have the opportunity to hear from other parents who have been through the experience of having children in college. They will share tips, insights, challenges and surprises.
6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Don't miss this exceptional performance! Our talented team of Orientation Leaders will introduce a wide variety of campus issues through unique skits and performances.
7:30 - 7:45 p.m.
Engage in a brief conversation regarding some of the situations explored in OL Theater. What would your student do?
Day 2 (June 22, 26, 29, July 10, 13)
8 - 9:30 a.m.
Start the day off right with continental breakfast.
9:30 - 10 a.m.
This is an opportunity to get to know more about your student's college or school (by academic major). Orientation staff will direct you to the appropriate room.
10 - 10:30 a.m.
Many academic support services are available to SXU students. This session will focus on the Learning Center, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Disability Services and the role of the academic advisor.
10:30 - 11 a.m.
Enjoy this opportunity to meet some of our current Orientation Leaders and learn about student life at SXU. Please come prepared with questions! You are also free to complete any business you need to, such as visiting offices, etc. during this time.
Commuter Parents in McGuire Hall/Resident Parents in L-217
11 - 11:30 a.m.
This session is led by Student Life or Residence Life staff to provide an overview of the campus experience and some important resources for your student's time at SXU.
11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Enjoy lunch while you explore this information fair featuring academic and student services departments. Representatives from across campus will be there to answer any questions you might have and provide useful information that will help your student navigate available resources.
12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
Learn about life outside the classroom at this interactive session. There are many ways your student can (and should!) get involved on campus and many resources available to help your student succeed. Representatives from Career Services, Shannon Athletic Center, Student Media and the Student Success Program (SSP) will be present.
1:30 - 2:30 p.m.
Have you talked with your son or daughter about making good decisions and being safe on campus? This session includes an overview of the Code of Student Conduct, Title IX policies and common sense tips. Staff from the Counseling Center, the Dean of Students Office, the Health Center and Public Safety will lead the conversation.
2:30 - 3 p.m.
Join OLs and members of the SXU community as we celebrate the closing of FOCUS! Thank you for attending FOCUS 2017! #wearesxu
