MVCC Art Secondary Education Transfer Guide

This transfer guide can assist art secondary education students with their transition to Saint Xavier University. Please refer to the general education requirements for an A.A. or A.S. degree found in the Moraine Valley Community College (MVCC) Academic Catalog.

If students complete the majority of their general education requirements prior to transferring to SXU, they may qualify for the IAI GECC Articulation Agreement with the exception of Philosophy 150: The Examined Life and a religious studies course.

Admission to Teacher Licensure Programs

Art students who are seeking state licensure must complete all requirements for the major, general education courses, professional education courses with a minimum of a "C" and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0. All students who wish to complete a Teacher Education Program for licensure, including clinical practice/student teaching at SXU must be officially admitted to the Education Department as a teacher education candidate. A teacher education program is a four-benchmark process. It starts when a student is admitted to the University and completes pre-candidacy requirements, continues through admission to the Education Department as an Education candidate and admission to clinical practice/student teaching, exit from clinical practice/student teaching and finally program completion (licensure). Additional Information

Art education is an interdisciplinary track, combining learning in art and design practices, art history and visual culture and the pedagogy of performance as a visual art teacher. Students in this track are trained to be artist/designer-teachers.
