Non-SXU Sponsored Study Abroad Course Approval Form
Instructions to Students
Use this form to seek approval for study abroad courses to count towards general education, major, minor and requirements. Students must meet with their academic advisor to plan what courses they intend to take when they study abroad. Take course information (course titles, course numbers and course descriptions) with this form to the Saint Xavier University faculty authorized to give approvals for the type of credit your seeking. (See the list of Deans/Department Chairs below). Students must obtain a signature from the dean of the school/college in which they plan on taking a course while they study abroad. Please obtain the appropriate signatures in the following order: academic advisor, department chair, dean and registrar. Students must return completed original forms to the Center for International Education Office prior to their departure. Students are advised to keep a photocopy for their records.
Course Changes While Students are Abroad
If while abroad, a student decides to change courses or a course they originally obtained approval for is not available at the host institution, the student must contact the appropriate faculty members via email to obtain approval for the new course. If the student does not contact the appropriate faculty members or the CIE office regarding their course(s) changes while abroad, it will be the students' responsibility to obtain approval for the changed course(s) once they return to SXU. Registrar will delay the posting of the students' grades until they have approval for all the course(s) completed at their Host Institution.
It is a requirement that students obtain course approvals before they depart for their study abroad program. Credits earned while abroad will be accepted by Saint Xavier University based on the approved petitions. Completed study abroad courses will appear on the student’s transcript with Saint Xavier University course equivalents. The credit-hours and quality points earned abroad will be included in the computation of the student’s Saint Xavier University cumulative grade point average.
