About the Bishop Gorman Institute
The Bishop Gorman Institute was founded by the School of Education to provide outstanding professional development for teachers, principals and leadership teams of Catholic schools, and it is part of the comprehensive relationship between the SOE and partner schools in Chicago and other communities. Bishop John Gorman, a well known leader in Catholic education, continues to provide support and encouragement to the BGI.
The overarching goal of this year's institute is, “Discipleship: Constructing Thoughtful Believers.”
The structure of the BGI is unique in that its direction and curricula emerge from
a collaboration among leaders in Catholic education, an active Advisory Committee
of local school leaders, and faculty members of SXU. This collaboration ensures a
dynamic mix of research-based best practice and wisdom of experience. Since its founding
in 2004, participants' reaction to the Institute has been enthusiastic, both in terms
of presenters and materials, and the opportunity to network with others who share
their commitment to Catholic education.
