Psi Chi National Honor Society

Psi Chi is an international honor society whose purpose shall be to encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology. The mission of Psi Chi is to produce a well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible member committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in general.

In pursuit of our mission we will:

  1. Advance the science and profession of psychology.
  2. Promote an educational experience consistent with the mission.
  3. Promote ethical and socially responsible members and leaders.
  4. Define and establish an organizational structure that promotes our mission.
  5. Recognize and foster the contributions that diversity makes to the science and practice of psychology.

The eligibility of psychology majors and minors for members and minors are reviewed at the beginning of each semester and eligible students are invited by the faculty advisor to apply for membership.

Membership Requirements

Benefits for members include the right to attend chapter meetings, participate in chapter activities, apply for relevant awards and grants, hold leadership positions, and have access to other Psi Chi resources.

Events

Psi Chi hosts a series of events related to professional development opportunities in psychology every other week which are regularly open to all students interested in psychology. For example, they have hosted professional development events focusing on getting into graduate school, obtaining careers in psychology with a bachelor's degree, writing personal statements, and creating a curriculum vitae; service opportunities including internships with sexual assault advocacy groups, clothing drives for sexual assault victims, and food drives for the hungry; and presentation opportunities at local conferences including the Midwestern Psychological Association and the Associated Colleges of the Chicago Area Student Scholarship Symposium.
