Honors Program Course Requirements

The program involves 27 credit-hours of course work taken over the course of four years, most of which satisfies University core requirements and elective requirements in the major. The students will take 5 honors seminars (15 credit-hours) during the first two years. This course work will satisfy 24 credit-hours of University core requirements. Students then will engage in 12 credit-hours of honors field work and honors project work during their last two years.

Core Requirements Satisfied by Honors Courses

Students who entered SXU Fall 2011 or Fall 2012
(Theme: The Global Community)
HONOR 150 Honors English: Satisfies ENGL 120
HONOR 151 Honors Philosophy: Satisfies PHIL 140
HONOR 152 Honors Social Science: Satisfies 6 credit-hours in social sciences
HONOR 250 Honors Humanities: Satisfies 3 credit-hours in Literature and 3 credit-hours in Philosophy
HONOR 253 Honors Science: Satisfies 6 credit-hours in science

Occasionally students enter SXU (and the honors program) with some core requirements already satisfied, and some students are invited into the honors program after they have already satisfied some core requirements at SXU. In these cases other courses that satisfy a core requirement can replace the honors course designed to satisfy that same core requirement for honors students.
