Award winning editor, newspaper columnist and broadcast journalist Laura Washington
delivered a lecture titled "The Idea of America: Why We Can't Afford to Run Away from
Race" at Saint Xavier University as a guest lecturer for the Honors Program.
A nationally recognized expert on racial issues and urban affairs, Washington traced
persisting patterns of inequity in American culture.
She offered realistic and refreshing strategies for responding to racist attitudes
and practices. In a stimulating question and answer session, students sought her advice
about how to actualize her strategies and goals on the SXU campus.
