History and Political Science
The Department of History and Political Science supports the University mission of liberal arts education in providing scholarship, academic programs and extra-curricular activities to help students better understand the diverse world in which they live, how that world developed and how to be effective and responsible citizens of that world.
Recently, SXU Political Science and International Studies students participated in the 2013 American Model United Nations, held in Chicago in November. Hosting over 1200 students from over 100 different colleges and universities from throughout the US and several other countries, the conference witnessed the return of SXU after an 8-year absence. Representing the nation of Ghana in all-day sessions over four days, SXU students debated issues ranging from economic development in the wake of the global financial crisis, peaceful uses of outer space, malaria abatement and anti-corruption campaigns. The students, who have been researching and preparing for months, represented their nation faithfully, with vigor and passion. Next year SXU will represent Egypt. Thanks to the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences whose financial assistance helped make this possible.
