Professor of Computer Science
Dr. Florence Appel joined the Computer Science faculty in 1986. She has most recently taught introductory and web programming courses, as well as database, operating systems and computer ethics. She is an active member of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), having served as chair of the ACM Special Interest Group on Computers and Society (SIGCAS) and is a current member of the USACM Public Policy Steering Committee. Dr. Appel is committed to diversifying the computing field, and has organized two regional celebrations of women in computing.
