Special Topics Workshop
The Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at Saint Xavier University was pleased to announce a continuing education workshop scheduled on Friday, January 5 and Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. This event took place in McGuire Hall on our Chicago campus.
Everything You Wanted to Know About Auditory and Language Processing
Course described a continuum of acoustic, phonologic, linguistic, and cognitive processes needed to interpret and respond to verbal information. Differential diagnosis of auditory and language processing disorders and functional, achievable remediation and management goals to meet clients' needs will be addressed. Case presentations are used to illustrate the assessment process and implementation of intervention strategies.
Presenters: Dr. Jeanane M. Ferre and Dr. Gail J. Richard
Dr. Ferre has focused her career on assessment of and intervention for central auditory processing disorders (CAPDs). She has published/presented extensively on CAPD and is a Fellow of the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA) and of ASHA and has received the Clinical Achievement Award and Honors of the Association from ISHA. Currently in private practice in the Chicago area, Dr. Ferre is a member of the adjunct faculty at Northwestern and Rush Universities.
Dr. Richard has been at Eastern Illinois University for 36 years, focusing on childhood developmental disorders, such as autism, language processing, selective mutism, and syndrome disorders, with extensive publications and presentations on these topics. Professional recognitions include 2017 President of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), ASHA Fellow, Honors and Fellow of the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA), Illinois Clinical Achievement Award, Distinguished Alumni awards, and several teaching and service awards.

The cost for this two day workshop was $200, $100 for SXU alumni, and free for those who have supervised students in the past year (must provide official letter to redeem).
