School of Education Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework of the School of Education of Saint Xavier University establishes the shared vision that directs the preparation of candidates to work effectively as professionals in P-12 schools and community agencies. As defined by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the conceptual framework provides direction for programs, courses, teaching, candidate performance, scholarship, service and unit accountability. It is knowledge-based and articulated in the programs of the School of Education.
Imbedded in the conceptual framework is a coherence between documents and statements of the School of Education and Saint Xavier University, so that a consistent vision is reiterated in the strategic directions, mission and heritage of the University, the core values from the founding Sisters of Mercy, and the conceptual framework of the School of Education.
The interaction of advisory committees and councils, candidates, graduates, faculty, administration and other persons committed to pursuing excellence encourages a dynamic assessment of the conceptual framework. This continuing assessment assures its relevance as the base of the intellectual philosophy of the School of Education and the means to identify its graduates.
