The University Student Health Insurance Plan is available to Saint Xavier University students for the 2016-2017 academic year. The Patient Protection Affordable Care Act (PPACA) includes requirements for student health insurance plans. The SXU Insurance plan is in compliance with PPACA requirements. You will also find information here about how to waive your enrollment in the SXU Insurance Plan, how to determine comparability of coverage if you plan to study abroad during the year for other insurance plans, and other pertinent insurance information.
The University requires all registered undergraduate students to carry adequate health insurance to cover, among other costs, hospitalization and outpatient diagnostic and surgical procedures. Additionally, if you reside in Chicago during the academic year, your insurance must cover medical care provided in the Chicago area for both emergency and non-emergency medical situations.
In keeping with this requirement, each year all insurance eligible students are automatically enrolled in the University Student Health Insurance Plan. If you wish to waive out of the Plan coverage, you must provide proof of alternate comparable coverage before the enrollment/waiver deadline. Unless you waive SXU Health Insurance enrollment during the open enrollment period, you will remain enrolled in the Health Insurance Plan coverage and the Office of the Bursar will bill you for the premium payments for the entire plan year (August 11, 2016 through August 10, 2017).
Detailed information about the plan can be found at: www.saintxavierinsurance.com.
Please note: You will not be able to waive or confirm enrollment for the 2016-2017 plan before July 1. You must waive by September 26, 2016 to opt out of the student health insurance.
