What is your most favorite story from SXU history?
In the 1950s, when Saint Xavier was building Warde Academic (SXU's Main Building), they wanted to have the building raised a little bit off flat land. So in an attempt to raise the building an extra couple feet, they started to dig in the middle of campus for dirt. They accidently struck a natural water spring, which is now Lake Marion. Our school's lake was a mistake.
What do I do for fun?
I love sports. I am always playing or watching sports. I root for my home teams: White Sox, Blackhawks, Bears and Bulls. When I am not doing something sports related, I am at home with my wife and two sons, Nate and Carter.
Why do I like my job?
I love my job because I get to interact with students who have decided to take the next step in education. Having gone to school to be a guidance counselor, this job has given me excellent insight into the college admission process and how to assist students in this process. But the best part of my job is being able to tell a student they have been accepted into a college. Giving students any good news is a great feeling.
What are your favorite things to do in Chicago?
Attending White Sox, Bulls, Hawks and Bears games is an experience like no other. Chicago has the most die-hard fans in the world. Aside from sports, I like walking by lakefront, going to museums, going to dinner downtown and doing the midnight bike ride during the summer.
What makes SXU different from other universities?
Having gone to SXU, I can personally attest to the fact that the professors truly care about you. The small classroom sizes allow the professors more time to interact with students and get to know them. My advisor/professor from undergraduate studies at Saint Xavier University (Dr. Sandra Burkhardt-Psychology) has written me several letters of recommendation for numerous things after I graduated. Much like Dr. Burkhardt, these professors love seeing their students succeed in school and in life.
What is your favorite season in Chicago?
Spring. The snow is gone, there are no leaves to pick up, the smell of freshly cut grass resonates throughout the neighborhoods and baseball season is in full swing. The weather in spring -- 55-75 degrees, sunny and breezy -- is the perfect weather. There is nothing better than playing sports in the spring.
What are your favorite places to eat near the SXU campus?
Oh man, where do I start?! Taco Burrito King, Fontano's Deli Subs, Portillos, Pop's, Barraco's, Wonderburger, Jr's Hot Dogs, Top Notch Burgers, Calabria's Italian Imports and a bunch more that could fill this whole page. Hands down, Chicago is the best place in the world for food.
