Graduate Program

As a vital force in the health care profession, nurses today are assuming greater responsibilities and more diverse roles in patient care. The graduate nursing program at Saint Xavier University prepares nurses to assume leadership and advanced practice roles in this challenging and rapidly changing health care environment.

Saint Xavier University School of Nursing's graduate program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the accrediting body of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).

Family Nurse Practitioner

The Family Nurse Practitioner program prepares professional nurses as specialists in the delivery of primary care services to individuals and families in a wide variety of settings. The program emphasizes health promotion and wellness as well as the management of common and complex health problems. Graduates are eligible to take the family nurse practitioner certification exam.

There are two options for participating in the family nurse practitioner program.

  • as one of three options under the graduate program, or
  • as post graduate option; this program enables a nurse who already holds a master’s degree in nursing to be prepared as a family nurse practitioner

Post-Master's Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner

The family nurse practitioner certificate program enables a nurse who already holds a master's degree in nursing to be prepared as a specialist in the delivery of primary care services to individuals and families in a wide variety of settings. The program emphasizes health promotion and wellness as well as the management of common and complex health problems. Graduates are eligible to take the family nurse practitioner certification exam. Students admitted as post-master's certificate students will meet with the FNP Program Director prior to enrollment to develop an individualized plan of study. The individualized plan of study will vary in total number of credits, depending on the student's previous graduate level course work in nursing and its recency.

MSN/MBA Program

The master of science in nursing and master of business administration joint master degree program combines the strengths of two schools within Saint Xavier University: the School of Nursing and the Graham School of Management. The MSN/MBA program is designed to meet the needs of those individuals desiring to serve in middle or senior level management positions in hospitals or community health care agencies. The curriculum consists of a combination of the master’s degree requirements within both nursing and business.
