Dr. Michael Flahive, professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders, has been selected to receive the 2012 Special Distinguished Service Award from the Council on Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders. The award recognizes individuals and organizations each year for their contributions to the Council and to higher education in communication sciences and disorders. Dr. Flahive is being recognized for his record of sustained contributions to the Council by unanimous vote of the Nominations Committee and the Board of Directors of the CAPCSD. He will be presented with the award at the annual CAPCSD conference in Newport Beach, California in April.
The Department of Biological Sciences at SXU has established a 3+3 articulation agreement with the Palmer College of Chiropractic (PCC) in Iowa that will allow SXU biology majors to easily transition to pursuing a Doctor of Chiropractic degree at PCC. The partnership allows qualified students to enroll in a six-year program leading to a BS in biology from SXU and a D.C. from PCC. For more information, please visit the Biological Sciences web page.
SXU’s pre-law program is sponsoring its first ever Mock Trial team. Coached by Patrick Enright, trial attorney and partner at O'Rourke, Hogan, Fowler & Dwyer, and Daniel Maloney, trial attorney and assistant state's attorney at Cook County State's Attorney's Office, SXU’s Mock Trial team is composed of hardworking and enthusiastic undergraduate students. The team performed a dress rehearsal on February 7 before three judges: The Honorable Brian Flaherty, Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, assigned to the 6th Municipal District as a judge in a felony courtroom; The Honorable Kathy Panozzo, Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, assigned to the 6th Municipal District as a judge in a misdemeanor criminal courtroom; and Mr. Mike Brown, Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Chicago Office.
